Welcome to the Glasgow group!

What happens at the group?

The groups are nice and relaxed, and informal. We generally have a chat with drinks and some nibbles. We sometimes have guest speakers come in if people think this would be helpful and this year we have had a couple of semi-permanent make-up artists come along.

Who can attend:

This group is designed for any adult living with or affected by alopecia from the ages of 18 and above.

Laura is happy to answer any questions about the group via email. Please be aware that any questions Laura is unable to answer will be sent on to staff at Alopecia UK.
Support group leads are not professional counsellors but people who have personal experiences with alopecia and, along with members of the support group can help to give insight and advice on living and dealing with alopecia on a day to day basis.
Please note that our Support Group Leads are volunteers and do this in their spare time, as such please allow up to a week for replies to emails. Support group leads also cannot give 1:1 support.

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition that causes sudden, patchy hair loss on the scalp, beard, eyebrows, eyelashes, or other parts of the body. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds and can vary in severity from small round patches to complete hair loss across the scalp and body.

Pattern Hair Loss

Pattern hair loss is the most common type of hair loss. It occurs in both men and women and becomes more common with increasing age. Around 50% of men over 50 and 50% of women over 65 are affected, though it can also start in younger adults and occasionally in early teen years.
