Researchers rely on people with alopecia taking part in research studies to help them find ways to improve the lives of people affected by these conditions. Alopecia UK supports researchers by connecting them with the community, by facilitating patient input into the design of research studies through patient and public involvement (PPI), and by helping them find people to take part in research studies.
We are regularly contacted by researchers working on alopecia research projects to help them find participants for studies. We check that these studies are appropriate for people with alopecia and that they have received ethical approval by a Research Ethics Committee before listing them.
Find details of opportunities to get involved in alopecia research. These studies can be on anything related to alopecia and include surveys, interview studies, and fundamental science trying to improve our understanding of alopecia.

The ‘Be part of research’ website by the UK National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) is another place for people to find out about clinical research happening in the UK. You can search for 'alopecia' and sign up to receive alerts when studies matching your interest become available.
For more information about individual clinical trials, the United States National Institutes of Health holds a database of clinical trials, on the clinicaltrials.gov website. You can search by condition, location and/or treatment to find trials that may be of interest to you. It includes information on previous and current clinical trials from around the world.
