A clinical trial is a research study testing a new treatment, device or medical intervention, to see if it is safe and effective in people with a particular health condition. By being part of a clinical trial, you can help find new treatment options for yourself and others with alopecia.

  • There are currently no active clinical trials to share; Opportunities to take part in clinical trials will be shared here as they become available.

* Please note that this page only lists clinical trials which Alopecia UK has been asked to support with recruitment. Because there are regulations around how pharmaceutical companies advertise trials, there may be active clinical trials for alopecia that are not listed here. To find out about other clinical research happening in the UK, see the links below.

  • Clinicaltrials.gov – database of trials

For more information about individual clinical trials, the United States National Institutes of Health holds a database of clinical trials, on the clinicaltrials.gov website. You can search by condition, location and/or treatment to find trials that may be of interest to you. It includes information on previous and current clinical trials from around the world.

  • Be part of research

The ‘Be part of research’ website by the UK National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) is another place for people to find out about clinical research happening in the UK. You can search by condition and sign up to receive alerts when studies matching your interest become available.
