Isaac Qureshi's 'True Crowns' exhibition took place in London over the weekend and was a brilliant success.

Inspired by photographer Isaac's wife Katherine's experience of living with alopecia, his work delved into the stories behind the condition, inviting viewers to look beyond the surface.

The resulting photos were powerful portraits, where the absence of hair becomes a powerful canvas for resilience and self-acceptance.

As well as sharing the portraits, visitors to the Stokey PopUp gallery were encouraged to read the experiences of the participants, via a carefully curated exhibition booklet, following the photos as you walked around, reading the words as you go. Words such as:

"It was an extremely emotional time, trying to come to terms with the new me, and some days it's still a struggle. I am slowly embracing this journey from insecurity into empowerment, and that what I once perceived as a loss, becomes a catalyst to find the courage to be unapologetically myself." - Emma

"Losing my hair at such a young age was incredibly tough - it felt like I was losing a part of myself. But over time, i've learned that my worth isn't tied to my hair. Alopecia has challenged me, but it's also shaped me into a more resilient and confident person. I still have difficult days, but I no longer let my define me." - Grace T

"For anyone facing their own challenges, I've learned that true confidence comes from within. Life doesn't always give us control, but we always have a choice in how we respond. Alopecia is just one chapter of my story, not the whole book." - George

Alopecia UK's Communications Manager Amy Johnson says:

"The True Crowns exhibition was powerful, brilliant, and inspiring. We are so grateful to Isaac for his dedication to this project, and for taking such wonderful photos of people living with alopecia, from across the UK. Alopecia UK was delighted to support this exhibition, and we look forward to bringing a selection of the portraits to the British Association of Dermatologists' annual meeting, to raise further awareness within the medical community, as well as showcasing some portraits at our Big Weekend event in Birmingham in September too."

A huge thank you to Isaac and everyone who took part in this special project. Isaac will be running the exhibition digitally over the next few weeks on Instagram, sharing the portraits and words of all 48 participants. Posts will go out from his Instagram account - @isaac.a.q - as well as on Alopecia UK's Instagram channel too - @alopeciauk - give both a follow to check out this valuable project.
