Dear Alopecia Community,

This Valentine’s Day, we wanted to take a moment to share our love and support with you. But also, to highlight some of the ‘lovely’ content on our website in the hope that this might be helpful to some readers.

We know that living with alopecia isn’t always straightforward. There can be days when we feel ok, and days where it all feels a bit too much. The alopecia community is brilliant at providing care and encouragement on those more difficult days. If you’re not already connected with our community, check out the peer support options we have available and see if any of them might work for you.

Valentine’s Day can be full of talk about romantic love (not to mention cheesy greetings cards and adverts!) but in her blog post, from a few years ago, our Communications Manager Amy reminds us that the Greatest Love of All is to love yourself. Whilst Amy references Whitney Houston perhaps one too many times, her blog is still worth a read.

For those of you who are seeking romantic love, our Dating with Alopecia page provides some advice for navigating the world of dating whilst living with hair loss.

Try not to forget that practicing self-care is the best way to show love to yourself. Self-care is so important and often overlooked when we are finding things tough. We’ve pulled together practical ideas for self-care, and even doing just one or two of these can make a real difference.

And for partners, parents, friends and family, we have created an advice page on how to offer support to a loved one with alopecia.

Finally, let us use this letter to invite you to join Alopecia UK for a day of community support, care, and fun, at our annual trip to Alton Towers on Saturday 11th April. Joining our ‘sea of blue’ at this national alopecia event is a feeling of love and strength like no other. We would LOVE to see you there.

Whether Valentine’s Day feels happy, sad, complicated, or anywhere in between, please know this: you have the support of Alopecia UK and our incredible alopecia community. You are all brilliant; don’t forget that.

With love this Valentine’s Day and always,
Alopecia UK
